A Dowler's Nocturnal Vesta/Matchbox with Go To Bed.
Patented system dated 1850.
The igniting part of a match was placed into the hole on the side of the vesta and held by the spring loaded mechanism. When the match was pulled out it ignited and could then be placed in the top and used as a Go To Bed.

Dowler's were based in Birmingham and were famous for manufacturing corkscrews.

A superb desk top reference library by ASPREY.
Dating from the 1920's. The mahogany bookstand measures approx. 21.5 cm across, 22 cm high and 10.5 cm deep. It comes with the complete set of (8) books that have gilt edging to the pages and gold coloured lettering to the spines.
All of the books include Asprey's address inside - 165, 166, 167 New Bond Street W1 and some indicate a date of January 1921.
This set reflects English Social History of the 1920's and was probably the property of an Aristocrat. A rare item, especially when found in this sort of condition.

Probably dating from the 1920's this unused hardback diary has quotes from Tennyson for each day of the week and is in very good clean condition
It measures approx. 9 cm x 11 cm and the page edges are gilded.
