A French Encrier in cream glass and cast metal frame. By J L Bascule of Paris.
Probably dating from c 1850.
Known as a SNAIL inkwell because of it's shape.
The inkwell is held on a swivel that allows it to be moved DOWN for use - UP to close and has a pen rest to the rear.
Please note: Although the glass inkwell has been repaired with staples it is a nice example. The repair is almost certainly contemporary to the period. This has been reflected in the price.
